As the discussion turns to converting games and as everyone tries to increase the size of their arcade's I feel this is an important topic.

Below is a list of the known game makers who do not wish to have their games converted to be used with Ibpro Arcade. I got this list from the official IBP Arcade Site http://www.ibparcade.com. Games are added to the list at their site when information becomes available to them.

This confuses me abit, what happens if the game they say you cant convert isnt there game and you get it from another website does this mean that there allowed ?

I played each game we had on the list and if the authors name came up I deleted the file.

If another website is using this game it is without the authors permission. Since Ibpro is the creator of the arcade system in question the authors of the games have gone right to the source and asked that anyone using Ibpro arcade not use their games. If you're using the game and it's on the banned list then you are doing so illegally. If another site is using the game or has converted the game listed on the banned list then it is illegal. Some game authors take great pride in their games and do not want to share. With the thousands of games out there that are okay to use, this should cause only a minor inconvenience.

Well, this basically answers my question I just asked YoungL via PM. I am glad to see that you are taking the initiative of removing all unauthorized games here at this site. Props to you all on a grand effort. :)

Cheers Freebird, just as i thought, other websites that dont own the game and tell others they cant use it there breaking the law by 1 using it and 2 passing it off as there own unless they have permission.

I can understand their concerns, they worked hard on the coding of their game so yea if they do not want sites to have their games without their permission I am all for that.

I don't think its that they don't want anyone playing them...its more that they want you to play them at certain sites. As many have said, these games do create traffic... and some site owners commission certain games so they will have a unique draw to their site. If you can only play Donkey Kong at a few sites, then that will guarantee those sites more traffic, and the game owners can sell them and expect site owners to be willing to pay for them.

Economics really...and who can blame them? If I paid someone for a game, I wouldn't want to see it showing up everywhere else posted by people who got it free.

Please reconsider having the Tony PA games on your banned list. Many (all as far as I'm aware though I haven't checked every last one) of these games were offered with a perpetual Creative Commons licence permitting full use and derivative work to be done with them in perpetuity. Thus those games cannot be made subsequently illegal to use. Tony PA knows this full well and really cannot, reasonably, complain if people use his games in full compliance with the licences he offered them under. He has changed his mind and appears to wish that he hadn't offered them under those licenses but you can't put toothpaste back in the tube. He tends to badger arcade system staff until, to get rid of him (IMHO) they remove his games...arguably this is illegal under the terms of the Creative Commons licence or, at the very least, the spirit of the license, but he still continues to do it.

Tony PA offered these games, initially, via the Flashkit site. I have previously posted there quoting the licensing agreements he offered them under and the admins and moderators there concur with the above...use of them cannot be illegal once they have been offered under those licenses. The Creative Commons licenses require that his authorship be maintained and that his notice of same built into the games not be removed...if that is kept to they are fully legal for us to use.

Apparently Tony PA's gripe is that some pay to use sites used his games and removed the licensing details thus claiming ownership of the games for themselves...not our problem, not our fault, nothing to do with us. He would be best to address himself to dealing with those sites and letting the rest of us continue to act in a legal and honest manner using his games according to the licenses under which he offered them!

Thanks for the positive feedback on this post. As for Tony PA's games it didn't hurt me to take them off my site they aren't that great lol. I'll respect his wishes not because he might come and hassle me but because it's how I wish to treat others. Everyone is free to do what they wish.
