There have been times in the past six years where I have neglected the site due to personal commitments in my life. I have been fortunate enough to have such excellent people help me run the site over the years. Every staff member at ibpArcade Downloads works on this in their spare time completely voluntarily. A lot of love, blood and sweat go in to the day to day running of the site. It takes 19 members of staff to maintain each and every part of the site. I may have had the idea for the site but alone I would have failed. I think this has leaded me to realise that sites such as ours are built around people and communities. Without the people who visit us daily, the people who play regularly and the people who staff the site we would have struggled to exist. I have found often that some forums forget their existence is to serve a community of people and sometimes sites can be run in a dictatorship fashion. Where the rulers of the sites become arrogant in their ways and forget what the purpose of their job is. I have always heavily infused a sense of purpose to the site and attempted to learn from experiences, from the users and from others around me. I truly believe good decisions and great ideas are not made alone but made with healthy debate. This is something I always try to do and I always try to get as many people as possible involved in the daily decisions. Conflict is inevitable where people are concerned, from the decision making and management of a site down to the enforcing of the site rules. Listening is always important.
The great thing about this place is the community that is intertwined within it. The regulars who visit, the staff who assist, the new users, the older users and absolutely everyone in between, each have a place and each contribute to the dynamic of the site. Over the years we have racked up over 26,000 members; 31,000 posts; 19,000 games and 3.2 million game plays.
As we approach the new year we often like to reflect over the achievements of the previous year and look toward the future. This year has seen a heavy increase in games and an increase in regular membership. We have upgraded to IP.Board 3.2 which was an important step for us to prove not only that we are still current but also that we adapt with the times. A number of marked improvements have helped invigorate new activity and I have personally been amazed by the positive response we have received from our members. Change is never easy, adjusting to a new home, a new school and a new job is always difficult equally moving to new software is hard. Lots has changed and we, like you, have had to learn and are continuing to learn to adjust.
We are looking forward to serving you through 2012 and well in to the future.
I want to take this opportunity to personally thank those who have made significant contributions to the site over the years. There is no particular order, and if your name is not on the list it does not mean that you have not contributed. I apologise to any that I miss, but believe me your contribution has been equally important.
